To empower the Latino/ Hispanic community within Michiana by providing educational, cultural and advocacy services in a welcoming, bilingual environment.

We are a charitable organization that functions as a community center on the west side of South Bend. It was founded by Fr. John Phalen in October of 1973 as a youth outreach program in response to the many needs of area Hispanic teenagers. La Casa now offers varied programs in an effort to edify Hispanic youth and adults in development of leadership skills, increase knowledge and appreciation of their own culture, and develop stronger self-esteem, encouraging fuller participation as community members.

In 1975, the organization incorporated as a not for profit corporation with a full-time staff, establishing it‘s home since 1980 at 746 S. Meade St. La Casa de Amistad offers vital educational and lifeskills based programming for the Hispanic/Latino community and its neighbors in Michiana. Today, La Casa de Amistad continues to grow and expand in response to the needs of its clients, utilizing current trends in education and informational services/resources. In doing so, La Casa is better able to serve our neighbors, by helping people prepare successfully for the workforce and daily life in our community.

Opportunities are available in different programs; After school program, I Can Read Program, GED in Spanish, Mariposas Group , ENL Citizenship classes, Spanish classes, community food pantry, summer program, strengthening Families and more . Opportunities are also available for new program development, surveys and special events. Group service projects can  also be arranged. Short and long term assignments are available.
