On Janurary 2008, four IU South Bend's students had an idea to create a new organization that would deal with the arts. During the months of January and February, these students, Hugo Garza, Guadalupe Garcilazo, Vanessa Figueroa, and Esmeralda Verde, gathered multiple times to discuss the process and requirements to create a new organization on the IU South Bend's campus.

A constitution was the first step to take, then came the establishment of an executive board. After that an advisor was picked. The first advisor choosen for this organization was Dr. Isabel O'Connor, but because of prior tasks she was unable to continue to be the guidance of the organization. However, Dr. O'Connor continues to be a great resource for TEATRO and students all around campus. Dr. Hayley Froysland gladly accepted the offer and is a great advisor for TEATRO.

The executive board of TEATRO has lost good representatives and gained tremendous leaders during the first year and continues to grow.

TEATRO (the expressional arts talent rising organization) was the name agreed by the first established executive board to name this organization.

In August of 2008, TEATRO offically launched on the IU South Bend's campus during the Fall 2008 welcome week event and continues to be a success since then.

During the Studetn Life Awards in 2009 TEATRO was awarded Club of the Year. What a victory for the organization.
